St. Clair Named to Canada FIFA Men's World Cup Roster

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Former Maryland men’s soccer student-athlete Dayne St. Clair was named to Canada’s 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup, as Canada announced their squad Sunday morning.

St. Clair joins Rodney Wallace (2018, Costa Rica), Omar Gonzalez (2014, USA), Graham Zusi (2014, USA), Maurice Edu (2010, USA), Clarence Goodson (2010, USA ) and Desmond Armstrong (1990, USA) as former Terps to travel to soccer’s most prestigious tournament. All but Goodson appeared in a match at the World Cup.

A native of Pickering, Ontario, St. Clair had a decorated career at Maryland that finished with the 2018 National Championship. St. Clair was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the College Cup after helping the Terps not allow a goal for the entire tournament, and the last 500 minutes of the season. He led the nation in minutes played for a goalkeeper that season, was 11th in goals against average and 12th in save percentage. For his career, St. Clair went 24-12-8 as a starter.

Following his career at Maryland, St. Clair was selected seventh overall by the Minnesota United in the MLS SuperDraft. He has since emerged as a star for the Loons, making 49 starts and helping the side reach the MLS Cup Playoffs the last three seasons. He was named an MLS All-Star in 2022 and was named MLS All-Star Game MVP.

A longtime member of the Canadian Youth National Team set up, St. Clair has made one appearance for the senior national team and was included on the roster for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Alistair Johnston, the brother of current Maryland captain Malcolm Johnston, was also included on the Canadian roster.

Canada will begin its World Cup campaign against Belgium (Nov. 23, 2 p.m., FOX) before facing Croatia (Nov. 27, 11 a.m., FOX) and Morocco (Dec. 1, 10 a.m., FOX/FS1).
