Four CF Montréal Players Selected by Canada's U-20 Team

MONTREAL – Defenders Alistair Johnston, Kamal Miller and Joel Waterman, midfielders Ismaël Koné and Samuel Piette, as well as goalkeeper James Pantemis, have been selected by Canada for the final roster that will compete at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar beginning on November 20.


All six players have been with the Canadian national team since the beginning of the month, as part of the team’s final preparatory camp held in Bahrain, ahead of the group stage of the tournament, which Canada will begin on November 23 against Belgium.

With a Montreal representation of 23% in head coach John Herdman’s final roster, CF Montréal is not only one of the best represented MLS clubs at the World Cup, but also the most represented club throughout Canada’s roster.

Prior to beginning their World Cup journey, the Canadians will also play a final warm-up match on Thursday, November 17, against Japan at the Al-Maktoun Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This will be Canada’s first appearance at the World Cup since 1986. In that tournament, Les Rouges finished last in Group C with a 0-3-0 record and no goals scored against the Soviet Union, France, and Hungary.

Canada will play its three group stage games on the following dates:

Belgium vs. Canada

Wednesday, November 23, 2pm EST

Croatia vs. Canada

Sunday, November 27, 11am EST

Khalifa International Stadium

Canada vs. Morocco

Thursday, December 1, 10am EST

Al-Thumama Stadium
