Duke Loses to Clemson, 2-0, in ACC Quarterfinals


DURHAM – The Blue Devils men’s soccer team dropped its first contest of the 2022 season on Sunday night with a 2-0 loss against Clemson in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blue Devils defense was tested early, turning away two scoring opportunities in quick succession in the sixth minute.
  • Wayne Frederick found himself with a scoring opportunity in the 34th minute, but his header was collected by the Clemson goalkeeper.
  • The offensive effort from both teams picked up in the second half, with Shakur Mohammed leading the way for Duke. The sophomore forward had shots either blocked or saved in the 64th and 68th minutes.
  • Clemson put a shot in the back of the net in the 71st minute to open the scoring.
  • Eliot Hamill made two saves in the 79th minute to keep Duke within striking distance.
  • The Tigers’ second goal of the contest came in the 90th minute.

NOTES

  • Duke recorded its first loss of the season and moves to 11-1-4 heading into the NCAA Tournament.

  • Duke turns its attention to the NCAA Tournament, with the bracket scheduled to be revealed on Monday, November 14. The field of 48 teams is seeded so the top 16 seeds receive a First-Round bye.
