Nittany Lions Fall to Indiana in Close 1-0 Quarterfinal Battle

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Fifth seed Penn State falls to fourth seed Indiana 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. 
 
FIRST HALF
The Hoosiers came out in similar fashion to the regular season game between the two teams. They forced 10 corner kicks throughout the first period. The Penn State defense held strong and did not conceive a goal on any of Indiana’s opportunities in the corner. 
 
Indiana struck first in the 36th minute. All-Big Ten first team member Ryan Wittenbrink notched a goal off an assist from Luka Bezzera. The Hoosiers led 1-0 at the half.

SECOND HALF 

The Nittany Lions came out of halftime with fire, taking three shots in the first 10 minutes to threaten a goal. Penn State maintained possession and were able to move the ball in Indiana’s half, which allowed them several offensive chances.

 

After taking no corner kicks in the first half, the Nittany Lions had two in the second half that led to scoring chances. 

 

The Penn State offense had several chances in Indiana’s box in the final period of play. Several blocked shots and headers that went just wide of the net, kept the Nittany Lions from adding a goal.

 

Despite outshooting Indiana 8-7, Penn State was unable to convert a goal and the final score remained at 1-0. 

 

The Nittany Lions’ record falls 6-6-4 overall, 3-3-3 Big Ten.
