Men's Soccer Lands Six All-Conference Awards


BOSTON – The University at Albany men’s soccer team saw six players earn 2022 America East All-Conference accolades, the conference announced Friday.  The Great Danes had one Second Team representative, three All-Rookies, and two All-Academic honorees.
 
Sam Philip, a defender from Christchurch, New Zealand, was UAlbany’s lone member on the All-Conference Second Team.  Philip is UAlbany’s longest-tenured player, beginning is career with the Great Danes in 2018.  This season, Philip played in 16 of UAlbany’s 17 regular season games while making 15 starts on a defense that ranked tied for fourth in the America East during the season.
 
Jackson Finn, a forward from Woodland, Wash., was UAlbany’s first of three members of the All-Rookie team.  Finn appeared in all 17 games for the Great Danes in his debut season while making 14 starts, scoring one goal and adding one assist to rank sixth on the team in scoring.
 
Caleb Vallance, a midfielder from Vancouver, Canada, also earned All-Rookie accolades.  Vallance appeared in 11 games for UAlbany in 2022, starting three.  Vallance made a bigger impact on the team late in the season, recording his three highest minutes-played totals in the final four games.
 
Max Wilhelm, a defender from Seuss, Germany, joined Vallance and Finn on the All-Rookie team.  Wilhelm started 15 of the 16 games in which he appeared, recording more than 900 minutes played.
 
Giuliano Lucca was UAlbany’s first member of the All-Academic team.  Lucca, a senior midfielder from Buenos Aires, Argentina, earned a 4.00 GPA studying Business Administration.  Lucca was one of two student-athletes to earn a 4.00 GPA on the All-Academic team.
 
Neophytos Scottis rounded out the Great Danes’ honorees, earning All-Academic accolades with Lucca.  Scottis, a senior defender from Nicosia, Cyprus, earned a 3.97 GPA studying Business Economics.  Scottis had the third-highest GPA on the All-Academic team.

Major awards for the 2022 season will be announced at a later date.

 

UAlbany begins its postseason push on Saturday, November 6 in the America East quarterfinal against six-seed NJIT.
