PITTSBURGH, Pa. – NC State men’s soccer took 24th-ranked Pittsburgh to overtime in the first round of the 2022 ACC Tournament, but the Panthers controlled the extra 20 minutes to earn the 4-1 victory on Wednesday night.
Luke Hille scored the Pack’s lone goal in the first half, his third of the season and ninth of his career. It marked the team’s first goal scored in a true road game this season as Hille capitalized on an NC State set piece.
Pitt got on the board first in the 12th minute with a goal from Michael Sullivan. Filip Mirkovic sent a long ball from behind midfield to Lucas Rosa in the back right corner of the box, and Rosa caught it before it went out of play and sent a low cross in to Sullivan for the run-through finish from behind the Pack’s back line.
The Wolfpack responded well following the Panthers’ score, highlighted by Hille’s tremendous effort on his 24th-minute goal. The sophomore kept it alive off a Conor Kelly corner, worked his way around a Pitt defender and turned for the goal that rolled into the bottom right of the net.

With the score at 1-1 for nearly two-thirds of regulation, NC State got a few additional looks that forced Panther keeper Joe van der Sar into three second-half saves.
