Rader Earns National Player of the Week Accolades

DURHAM – Coming off helping lead Duke women’s soccer into the semifinals of the ACC Championship, freshman Kat Rader has been tabbed the National Player of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer, along with being named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.

Rader, a native of Stuart, Fla., collected two goals and one assist on the week as the Blue Devils traveled to No. 8 Virginia and registered a 2-1 win to advance to the semifinals.  Duke also went on the road to Notre Dame and notched a 2-2 draw against the No. 4 Irish to conclude the regular season.  Rader played a big role in both contests.

On Sunday at Virginia, Rader assisted on Duke’s first goal of the match to Michelle Cooper and then somehow found some space in the second half to get a shot off and register the game-winner to push the Blue Devils past the Cavaliers.

Rader totaled a second-half goal at Notre Dame to put the Blue Devils ahead, 2-1, before the match finished in a 2-2 draw.  The Irish had not allowed a goal over the previous six matches.

On the season, Rader has collected 11 goals, which leads all ACC freshman and ranks third nationally among rookies.  Her 11 goals are tied for second on Duke’s single-season freshman record charts, while her 25 points ranks sixth.

Blue Devil sophomore Michelle Cooper was also an honorable mention selection for the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, after collecting two goals and one assist on the week.

Duke will next face top-seeded North Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m., at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.  The ACC Championship semifinal match will be aired live on ACC Network.
