ND’s Russo, WF’s Suzuki Named ACC Men’s Soccer Players of Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame forward Daniel Russo was named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the 2022 season, while Wake Forest defender Takuma Suzuki claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Russo scored four goals in two matches over the past week, leading the Fighting Irish to a win over Michigan and a draw at No. 23 Pitt. The Jackson, New Jersey, native scored the first hat trick of his career in the 3-2 win over Michigan, all coming in the second half. He scored the game-tying goal in the 84th minute and scored the eventual game-winner just 103 seconds later. Russo continued his great form by leveling the match in the second half at Pitt on the way to a 1-1 draw. Russo now leads the Irish in scoring with six on the season, a career high for the junior.

Suzuki helped the Demon Deacons to a 3-0 victory over No. 9 Louisville on Friday to secure a first-round bye in the ACC Championship. The native of Peachtree City, Georgia, played 85 minutes and helped hold Louisville to eight shots and just two on goal to preserve a clean sheet. It marked the first time in 16 games this season that the Cardinals were shut out. Suzuki also recorded an assist, his second of the season, off a corner kick.
