THE SERIES

  • The Hokies hold a 13-5-1 advantage over the Cardinals in a series that dates back to 1980. Both sides met 13 times between 1980-1994 before the matchup went on hiatus until Louisville joined the ACC in 2014.
  • Virginia Tech and Louisville have met eight times in the post season. Seven occurrences happened when both teams were part of the Metro Conference, while one meeting happened in the ACC Tournament. The Hokies are 8-0 in these matches.
  • Tech’s current three-game winning streak against Louisville started in the first round of the ACC Tournament in 2019 when the Hokies defeated the Cardinals, 2-0, at Louisville.

A WIN WOULD…

  • Be Virginia Tech’s fifth ACC Tournament win in the last six seasons.
  • Be Virginia Tech’s first win against an ACC opponent this season.
  • End a five-match losing streak for the Hokies, their longest single-season skid since 2011.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Tech fell on its Senior Night, 1-0, to No. 3 Duke last Friday. The loss wrapped up an 0-8 ACC campaign for the Hokies, which had only occurred once before in Blacksburg during the 2008 season.
  • A sneaky deflection by Scotty Taylor from a Nick Pariano shot in the 28th minute served as the lone goal in the contest.
  • Although Duke held the upper hand in shots (14-6), the Hokies didn’t feel under duress throughout most the match. As has been the case all season, Tech struggled to create its own opportunities with its first shot on goal coming in the 88th minute.
  • Martino recorded his third-straight match with five or more saves. The sophomore ranks second in the ACC in saves per game with 3.36.

ACC TOURNAMENT HISTORY

  • Virginia Tech is 6-14-2 in the ACC Championships since 2004.
  • Since the start of their six-season NCAA Tournament streak, the Hokies are 4-4-2 in the ACC Tournament.
