Copetti, Rindov Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. –– Maryland junior forward Stefan Copetti and senior center back Chris Rindov provided the Maryland men’s soccer team with a sweep of the Big Ten weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Copetti was named offensive player of the week while Rindov was named defensive player of the week.

Copetti scored the biggest goal of Maryland’s season Sunday afternoon, tallying off a Joshua Bolma cross in the 87th minutes to lift the Terps to a draw with Indiana. That point gave the Terps the outright Big Ten Regular Season Championship, their first conference title since 2016. Copetti also notched a goal in the Terps’ 4-1 win over Delaware.

Copetti was also named Maryland’s Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week.

Rindov played all 180 minutes in the Terps’ two match week. He helped limit Delaware to zero first half shots before leading a Maryland defense that gave up just six shots to an Indiana side averaging over 13 shots a game coming into Sunday. Rindov has played every minute of Maryland’s season.

It is Rindov’s second Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.  William Kulvik (2x), Nick Richardson (2x), and Niklas Neumann have also won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards this season. Copetti joins Malcolm Johnstonwho was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13.

Maryland returns to action Friday night at Ludwig Field against Northwestern in the Big Ten Quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
