Wake Forest Battles to 1-1 Draw with Boston College

NEWTON, Mass. – The Wake Forest women’s soccer team (9-6-3, 3-6-1 ACC) battled to a 1-1 tie with ACC foe Boston College (5-8-5, 1-7-2 ACC) Thursday night in its final regular season contest of the 2022 campaign.

 

Neither side came up with significant scoring opportunities in the early going as the two teams combined for only two shots on goal in the first half.

 

The defensive struggle continued into the second half before Boston College opened the scoring in the 81st minute on a goal from Sophia Lowenburg.

 

With its back against the wall, Wake Forest responded just four minutes later when Hannah Johnson fired a strike into the net from six yards out.

 

Both sides attempted to break the deadlock over the final five minutes of action but neither team was successful as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

 

Wake Forest will now turn its attention to the NCAA Selection Show as the Demon Deacons still have an opportunity to gain an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Show will take place on Monday, Nov. 7. 

 

How it Happened

  • Following a couple of off-target Boston College shots in the ninth minute, Sam Smith came closest to opening the scoring in the 15th minute, as she struck the top woodwork from the edge of the box.
  • Malaika Meena had the first chance of the game for the Demon Deacons in the 18th minute as she fired a shot high.
  • Parks was called into action for the first time in the 22nd minute as she forced a Sydney Segalla shot wide for a Boston College corner.
  • The Deacs grew into the game as time went on and started to have longer periods of possession…
