Jaskaniec Named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year; Five Badgers Earn Postseason Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Coming off a standout senior season, Emma Jaskaniec has been recognized as the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, while five Badgers earned postseason recognition, the conference announced Thursday.

Jaskaniec and fellow senior Natalie Viggiano earned spots at the midfield position on the All-Big Ten Team. Freshmen Liv Curry and Rylee Howard were named to the All-Freshman Team, while sophomore Ashley Martinez was the team’s Sportsmanship Award recipient.

Despite suffering a season-ending injury at Penn State and missing the last three games of the regular season, Jaskaniec remains in the Big Ten lead in points (24) and is tied for the lead in goals (10). The heart and soul of the Badgers, Jaskaniec posted a career year, stringing together a 12-game point streak, which included an eight-game goal streak, that spanned from August to October. Jaskaniec placed 10 of her 17 shots on goal into the back of the net, with three of those proving to be game-winning goals.

Jaskaneic is the program’s first Big Ten Midfielder of the Year since Rose Lavelle earned the honor in back-to-back seasons from 2015-16.

Viggiano is also producing a stellar senior campaign as she is tied for second on the team in goals (6) and ranks third in points (14). Viggiano has scored five of her goals in Big Ten competition, while four of her goals on the season have been game-winners.

Curry and Howard have started all 18 games in their freshman seasons. Curry ranks third on the team in minutes (1,475) and has helped the Wisconsin defense log seven shutouts. Howard has notched three goals and three assists, and has produced seven of her nine points in conference matches.

After playing in two games a season ago, Martinez has seen the field in all 18 games as a sophomore.
