Bears Down Buffaloes – California Golden Bears Athletics

Utah

BERKELEY – No. 25 California women’s soccer dominated the pitch at Edwards Stadium on Thursday afternoon, handing Colorado a 4-0 final score, the most goals the Bears have scored in a single game this season. It was the team’s 8th shutout of the season and 5th clean sheet for Cal keeper Angelina Anderson, bringing her to 26 career shutouts.

The game got off to a relatively quiet start with a scoreless 23 minutes passing by until Cal’s offense scored three times in just eight minutes to take the advantage.

Noelle Bond-Flasza was first to put points on the board for Cal when she scored in the 24th minute. Ayo Oke set up the pass from just outside the box and Bond-Flasza knocked in a header right past Colorado’s keeper into the right side of the net. It was Bond-Flasza’s first career goal.

Just five minutes later, Keely Roy took a penalty kick which was blocked by the Buff’s goalkeeper, but Oke charged at the loose ball and passed it to a trailing Roy who tapped it into the middle of the unguarded net.

The dynamic duo of Roy and Oke struck again just three minutes later as Oke made a sideways pass at the edge of the box which Roy then launched into the back middle of the net. It was Roy’s 11th goal of the season and Oke’s 10th assist.

Cal entered the half with a 3-0 advantage and the team continued to dominate the match as the second half got underway. In the 63rd minute, Roy took a corner kick and delivered it right in front of the net causing a scramble for possession. Karlie Lema
