SEATTLE, WASH.- Seattle Sounders FC today announced that it is exercising the 2023 contract options of several players, putting the club’s roster at 23 contracted players heading into next season. Following the conclusion of Seattle’s 2022 campaign, the Rave Green have now officially entered the 2022-2023 offseason, with preparations underway for next year.

“2022 will be remembered as the year Sounders FC cemented itself in the history books by winning the 2022 Concacaf Champions League title,” said General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. “That does not take away the disappointment of missing the postseason for the first time in club history, and we are already amidst preparations to bounce back in 2023. I’d like to thank our players for their hard work all season, as well as the staff for their contributions each and every day. I would also like to thank all our fans for their emphatic support of the club all year long, this season and every season.”

The following players saw their options exercised for 2023: Josh Atencio, Abdoulaye Cissoko, Danny Leyva, Jordan Morris, Jackson Ragen, Dylan Teves and Andrew Thomas. 16 additional players are under contract for next season, including Xavier Arreaga, Yeimar Gómez Andrade, Reed Baker-Whiting, Léo Chú, Stefan Cleveland, Ethan Dobbelaere, Stefan Frei, Nicolás Lodeiro, João Paulo, Nouhou, Alex Roldan, Cristian Roldan, Kelyn Rowe, Raúl Ruidíaz, Albert Rusnák and Obed Vargas.

Sounders FC has declined the contract options of Will Bruin and Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez. Additionally, Jimmy Medranda is out of contract. Fredy Montero remains in active discussions with the club, while Sam Adeniran’s status will be determined following the conclusion of San Antonio FC’s postseason run, where he is currently out on loan.

Sounders FC finished the 2022 campaign with a 16-17-5 record across all competitions. The Rave Green became the first MLS side to win the Concacaf Champions League title in the spring, before a regular season that fell short of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in the club’s 14-year history. Seattle heads into the offseason with its sights set on the 2023 campaign, which begins with the FIFA Club World Cup.
