Lucas Hatsios Honored as ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State men’s soccer goalkeeper Lucas Hatsios was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon after helping the Pack go unbeaten in its most recent pair of matches against William & Mary (2-1 win) and Syracuse (1-1- draw).

The recognition marks the second ACC weekly award of the season for the Wolfpack as Conor Kelly was named Offensive Player of the Week at the start of the year. It is the first time since Oct. 15, 2018 that NC State has had a Defensive Player of the Week.

Hatsios made a total of 11 saves in 12 opponent shots faced across the Pack’s matches against the Tribe and the Orange.

That mark was highlighted by a career-high eight stops against fourth-ranked Syracuse as Hatsios prevented the Orange from ever taking a lead in the match and helped his team secure a point against a formidable Syracuse program. He also made three saves in the Wolfpack’s Oct. 18 win over William & Mary, making all three of those after the Tribe’s first goal to keep them from capitalizing again.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Hatsios has started in 12 of the Pack’s 14 matches in 2022 after earning the first nod of his career in the team’s season opener. He has tallied four shutouts on the year and ranks first in the ACC in saves per game (3.6) and fourth in total saves (43) and save percentage (.768) this year.

NC State is in action again on Tuesday night as it hosts Radford at 7 p.m. for a makeup of a previously postponed game from earlier this season. The Wolfpack will then hit the road to take on Clemson on Friday, Oct. 28 for its regular-season finale
