Pundit labels Liverpool boss Klopp ‘jealous’ of Man City as Salah switch is predicted

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is “jealous” of Manchester City’s riches after his comments about Newcastle United, according to one pundit.

After a mixed start to the new Premier League season, the Reds looked to have turned a corner with back-to-back wins over Manchester City and West Ham.

However, they came crashing back down to earth on Saturday when Taiwo Awoniyi – who used to be on the books at Anfield – scored the only goal of the game to give Nottingham Forest victory over Liverpool.

Before the match, Klopp took a swipe at Newcastle, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain – who are all owned by Gulf states – over their ownership models with the Liverpool boss claiming his club cannot compete.

Klopp said last week: “What can Liverpool do? We cannot act like them. It is not possible – not possible.

“It is just clear, and again, you know the answer. There are three clubs in world football (Man City, PSG and Newcastle) who can do what they want financially. It’s legal and everything, fine, but they can do what they want.

“Newcastle ( Dan Ashworth ) said there’s no ceiling for the club, he’s right, there is no ceiling for Newcastle – congratulations, some other clubs have ceilings. We cannot act like them. It’s not possible.”

Former Scotland international Frank McAvennie agrees with Klopp and insists the “jealous” Liverpool boss hasn’t “said anything wrong”.

“It is true what he is saying,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“They are going to be saying that of Newcastle once they get nearer the top. The bigger players will be going to Newcastle, including one or two in January, because they can pay the most. That is not a criticism, it is the truth.

“You also need to have a manager like Pep who can buy good players. It is alright buying big players but they might not fit in to the team or the way Man City play. Up to now he has done wonders.

“I do not think there is anything wrong with what Klopp is saying. Pep will know that, he will know he has got the money to buy anyone he wants. It is getting the right ones, that is the problem. Getting ones that will fit into the team and not upset the dressing room.

“Klopp will have been told he is not getting that kind of money. Of course he will be a little bit jealous but he has not said anything wrong.”

The poor form of Mo Salah this season has been a big part of the drop off from Liverpool with Salah playing a more central role at times.
