Women's Soccer Shuts Out Miami For Fifth Straight Win

CORAL GABLES, Fla.— Four different goal scorers powered No. 2 North Carolina to its fifth consecutive win with a 4-0 victory over Miami Sunday at Cobb Stadium in its penultimate game of the regular season.

The victory was the Tar Heels’ 12th straight over the Hurricanes and 17th in 19 all-time matches. It was also their 11th shutout of the year and the series.

Redshirt freshman Ally Sentnor’s goal in the 10th minute gave Carolina (14-3-, 7-2 ACC) all the offense it needed as Miami (5-7-3, 2-6-1) was unable to create any opportunities on offense, managing just two shots, and one shot on goal.

It was the third time this season in which the Tar Heels held their opponent to two shots or less.

“My favorite part of the weekend was not just the two critical ACC victories,” UNC head coach Anson Dorrance said. “I live the fact against Miami every player that came on the trip had a chance to play. Sometimes when that happens the level of the game falls off, but that was not the case this time.

“Every player we subbed in, played to her potential and I was proud of everyone that got into the game.”

Senior Tori Hansen converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute and the Tar Heels led 2-0 at halftime.

Junior Avery Patterson and graduate Rachel Jones each added a second half goal to help the Tar Heels improve to 6-1 in true road games this season.

Redshirt freshman Emmie Allen and senior Marz Josephson split time in goal for their seventh combined shutout of the year.

The Tar Heels close out regular season play Thursday, Oct. 27, at Louisville, looking to claim their 25th ACC regular season championship. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
