Pack Drops Road Contest at No. 8 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The NC State women’s soccer team dropped Sunday’s match 4-0 to Virginia on Sunday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium.
 
Virginia (12-2-3, 5-2-2 ACC) scored twice in the opening 15 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The Cavaliers extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second half behind Alex Spaanstra’s second goal of the match and capped off the scoring with a goal in the 57th minute.
 
Alexis Strickland recorded a shot on target for the Pack in the closing minutes of the first half, firing a close range effort from the ride side of the box to force a save from Virginia goalkeeper Michaela Moran.
 
NC State (7-7-4, 2-6-1 ACC) fired seven shots in the final 45 minutes, recording its first shot of the second half less than a minute into the period when Jameese Joseph forced a save from Moran. The Pack recorded three shots in a 7-minute span with a pair of corner kicks, but Moran again denied NC State of its opening goal.
 
The Pack finished with nine shots, firing three attempts on target. Leyah Hall-Robinson, Jameese Joseph and Mia Vaughan paced NC State with two shots apiece.
 
Graduate defender and captain Lulu Guttenberger set an NC State record on Sunday with the 93rd start of her career. Her 93 appearances also tie a Wolfpack record for career appearances. Guttenberger can set yet another record with her 94th career appearance in Thursday’s road match at Syracuse.
