No. 24 Penn State Draws 1-1 at Iowa

IOWA CITY, IOWA — The No. 24 Penn State women’s soccer program closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw at Iowa on Sunday.
 
Ally Schlegel scored her tenth goal of the season for the Nittany Lions in the 24^th minute, but the Hawkeyes would score the equalizer in the 52^nd minute. 
 
Penn State concludes the regular season 10-4-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Big Ten. Iowa finished 5-6-7 overall and 2-3-5 in the league.
 
The Nittany Lions have clinched a spot in the Big Ten Tournament and will await the conference’s announcement on bracket seeding.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Penn State struck first as seniors Maddie Myers and Kate Wiesner delivered a ball to Schlegel who made a move past a Hawkeye to drill the ball into the net off her left foot.
 
The PSU defense held strong, not allowing a Hawkeye shot until the 30^th minute of the match, and it sailed off target.
 
The half ended with PSU out-shooting Iowa five to one. The Hawkeyes had four corner kicks but could not convert.
 
The 52^nd minute saw Iowa score the equalizer.
 
Now with the momentum, Iowa would take the next five shots of the match with redshirt senior keeper Katherine Asman making back-to-back big saves in the 68^th and 69^th minutes to keep the score even.
 
The Hawkeyes had a big chance in the 82^nd minute on a header that instead hit the post.
 
In the meantime, shots from Wiesner and senior Devon Olive were saved as well.
 
In the 85^th minute, senior+ Penelope Hocking was fouled in the box giving the Nittany Lions a penalty kick opportunity. Schlegel took the shot, but the Iowa keeper blocked it with…
