Guardiola Argues Man City's De Bruyne 'Can Do Better'

Kevin De Bruyne may have nine assists already this Premier League season and have netted a stunning goal on Saturday but Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he’s not playing near his best.

De Bruyne settled City’s 3-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday with a superb curling strike.

Erling Haaland had scored two first-half goals for City, before Leandro Trossard pulled one back early in the second half.

The Belgian put City at ease with his strike, which was his second league goal of the campaign, but also his 24th Premier League strike from outside the box.

Despite that, Guardiola said he wants more from the two-time Premier League Player of the Season.

“(He) Can be better,” Guardiola told reporters. “He’s not playing at his top level, not yet.

“He made a fantastic goal but hes not playing his best. He knows. I dont have to tell him. His dynamic is not perfect, he knows that.

“I spoke with him. The goal is outstanding. Thanks to him we didnt suffer in the last 15, 20 minutes when the game was more open.

“Kevin made a masterclass action so we win the game.”

Guardiola was full of praise for Brighton and their new boss Roberto De Zerbi for their style.

“They propose the type of game we are not used to,” he said.

“Few teams are used to. We did not have men free. They played man to man, so we had to play more direct balls. In general, I am so satisfied with the points because it was a tricky game.”
