Arizona State

EUGENE, Ore.Kess Elmore scored in the fourth minute as Oregon tied No. 25 California, 1-1, Sunday in front of 520 fans at Papé Field.

Oregon earned the draw despite playing the final 19 minutes down a player after Chai Cortez was sent off with her second yellow card of the match.

How it Happened: Oregon (4-6-6, 2-4-2) led for much of the match after Elmore’s early strike.

Off a Cal turnover, Cortez started a quick counterattack from the midfield and fed the ball to Elmore down the left side. Elmore cut in to her right at the top of the box to create room to squeeze off a shot and she hit a laser in to the far side of the net for her second goal of the season.

Leah Freeman made three saves in the first half as the Ducks led 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, Oregon was in the attacking third early with four shots in the first 16 minutes of the period – one each by Trinity Morales, Anna Phillips, Bel Rolley and Anna Emperador – but could not find a second goal.

Cortez was issued her second caution of the game for grabbing an opponent and was sent off in the 71st minute. The Ducks kept Cal (9-4-4, 6-3-1) at bay until Ayo Oke was taken down in the box in the 83rd minute and Keely Roy converted the penalty kick to knot the game at 1-1.

Freeman made two saves in the final five minutes to preserve the tie. She finished the match with seven saves and went over 100 saves on the season.
