Women's Soccer Continues Road Trip At Miami Sunday


MIAMI, Fla. – Second-ranked North Carolina plays its penultimate match of the regular season Sunday afternoon against Miami at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

The Tar Heels will be looking to match their longest winning streak of the season with a win on Sunday. Carolina has won four in a row, its longest winning streak since opening the season with five consecutive victories. UNC is coming off a 2-1 come from behind victory over No. 4 Florida State in Tallahassee on Thursday. Miami earned its second win of the conference season with a 1-0 shutout of Boston College Thursday.

Carolina is making its third consecutive trip to Coral Gables, facing off against the Hurricanes in South Florida in 2019 and 2021. UNC and UM did not play in 2020.

The Tar Heels enter Sunday’s match tied with Florida State and Notre Dame atop the ACC standings with 18 points each. UNC and Notre Dame each beat Florida State, but the Tar Heels and Fighting Irish do not play during the regular season. Notre Dame has remaining games against Wake Forest (A) and Duke (H), while the Seminoles close out the regular season with Pitt (A) and Virginia Tech (H). UNC wraps up its regular season at Louisville.

Improvment From A Year Ago | With its win over FSU on Thursday, North Carolina eclipsed its overall win (12) and conference win (5) totals from last season. UNC has scored 38 goals through 15 games this season after scoring 39 goals in 18 games a year ago.

Last Time We Met | North Carolina out-shot Miami, 26-1, and converted four goals by four different players for a 4-0 win at Cobb Stadium in the regular season finale a year ago. Sam Meza gave Carolina all the offense it needed as she collected a deflected shot inside the penalty area and beat goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais to the lower left corner in the 18th minute. Emily Colton, Emily Murphy and Talia Dellaperuta each scored after halftime. 

Road Wins | North Carolina has a winning percentage of .833 in true road games this season, tops in the ACC along with Notre Dame. The Tar Heels and Fighting Irish are both 5-1 in true road games in 2022.

Scoring First | The Tar Heels have scored first in 14 of 16 matches played this season and are 11-3 when socring first. In the two games which they conceded the fist goal, Carolina rallied to pos 2-1 wins over UCF and Florida State.
