After a 3-0 demolition in Round One, NYCFC continue their MLS Cup defense away at CF Montreal on Sunday.
The defending champions have found their groove at the perfect time, winning their last five games across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two.
But just like last season, the Cityzens will play away from home from here on out as the third seeds in the East. With five defeats from 17 games at Saputo Stadium, Montreal are by no means invincible on their own patch and NYCFC will take further confidence from their current run of form.
“We played maybe our best game of the season so far,” right-back Anton Tinnerholm told reporters. “We’re feeling like we have good momentum right now. We wanna keep on going.”
Now in his fifth season with the club, Tinnerholm suffered the heartbreak of missing last year’s run to glory due to an ACL tear. However, the Sweden international is back to full fitness and played the full 90 minutes against Inter Miami last time out.
While Tinnerholm had to watch on as his teammates made history in 2021, he sees absolutely no reason why he can’t be part of another special run to MLS Cup this time around.
“I think that when we play at our best we’re the best team in the league,” he declared.
