WSU Soccer Falls in Home Contest to ASU

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women’s soccer team (8-4-3, 2-3-2) lost to Arizona State, 2-0, Thursday night at Lower Soccer Field. The Sun Devils scored two second-half goals to hand WSU its first home loss of the season.
 
The Cougars continued a season-long theme of heavily outshooting their opponents, putting up 32 shots on ASU, compared to just eight shots for the visitors. After a scoreless first half, in which Cougar goalkeeper Nadia Cooper made one save, WSU returned from the locker room looking to increase the pressure.
 
In the 50th minute, with the Cougs pressing forward into the attacking third, ASU quickly countered out of the back and played a cross in to Olivia Nguyen who finished the chance first-time for a 1-0 lead.
 
Washington State continued its offensive onslaught, putting up 20 shots in the final 40 minutes. WSU forced ASU’s goalkeeper into seven saves in the match, including a pair of shots from Margie Detrizio around the hour mark, which the Sun Devils’ netkeeper was able to parry away.
