Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says he will deal with Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday after the Portuguese stormed off with five minutes left in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Ronaldo’s growing discontent at Old Trafford was on show again, with the 37-year-old opting to exit down the tunnel as an unused substitute with time left in the game.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had shaken his head numerous times in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle United as he walked off to be replaced with 20 minutes remaining.
But Ronaldo took that another level on Wednesday in a sign of his frustration and petulant disregard despite United still have the option to use two more substitutions in the game at the time.
It all comes after his failed bid to leave United in the off-season, having wanted to move somewhere else to play UEFA Champions League football and challenge for silverware, which he felt he couldnt achieve at United under Ten Hag.
“He was there. I have seen him yeah, but I didn’t speak to him after,” Ten Hag told Amazon.
“I will deal with that tomorrow, not today. Today, we are celebrating this victory and now we have to recover from this for Saturday.
“Chelsea, another big game but the Premier League is so exciting.”
Ronaldo has only started two times in the league this season, used in six games off the bench, scoring one goal. He has started all four of United’s Europa League games, scoring once.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus forward had also left a pre-season game against Rayo Vallecano early in July, with Ten Hag calling that “unacceptable”.
