Syracuse (8-5-2, 1-4-2) travels to Ambrose Urbanic Field to face #21 Pittsburgh (11-3-1, 4-2-1) on Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. The game will air on the ACC Network.

The Syracuse-Pittsburgh Series:

Syracuse leads 12-7-4 in the all-time series record with Pittsburgh. The two teams first met in 1996, during Syracuse’s initial season of intercollegiate play, and the Orange emerged with a 6-0 victory. The Panthers captured the most recent match, winning a 2021 encounter, 4-2. 

Syracuse Status:

Syracuse is coming off consecutive ACC draws with #2 Virginia (2-2) and Clemson (1-1). Last Friday, at home against Clemson, Syracuse came from behind to earn a tie on graduate student Jenna Tivnan’s header. She was set up by junior Kate Murphy’s corner kick.

Freshman Shea Vanderbosch has made 13 straight starts in the goal for Syracuse. She ranks first among ACC performers in save percentage (.829). Vanderbosch is ranked 27th in Top Drawer Soccer’s Freshman College Soccer Player Rankings.

Freshman Grace Gillard is ranked 60th in Top Drawer Soccer’s Freshman College Soccer Player Rankings. She has started 15 games for the Orange and leads the squad in minutes played (1,322) for this season.

Pittsburgh Status:

The Panthers enter the contest ranked 21st in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll. Pittsburgh tied Boston College 1-1 on Saturday. Prior to that, the Panthers lost consecutive ACC matches against nationally-ranked North Carolina (4-0) and Duke (1-0). Pittsburgh has been ranked as high as 13th in this season’s national poll.

Pittsburgh has scored 41 goals this season, which ties the school’s single-season record. Senior Leah Pais leads the team in scoring with seven goals and four assists.

Senior goalkeeper Caitlyn Lazzarini has started all 15 games for the Panthers. She has a 1.06 goals-against-average and a .754 save percentage.
