Racing Louisville FC midfielder Alex Chidiac is returning home to Australia for a loan spell through a portion of the upcoming A-League Women season.
The 23-year-old will link up with her former team, Melbourne Victory FC, featuring for the back-to-back league champions until she returns to Louisville for 2023 preseason camp in mid-February.
“I’m really looking forward to return home to play for the winter and rejoin Melbourne Victory,” Chidiac said. “This will be a great opportunity to keep playing, and I’m excited to try to help Victory push for a third consecutive title.”
Chidiac recently finished her first campaign with Racing, scoring two goals in 18 appearances. Her go-ahead penalty at Angel City on Sept. 25 eventually stood up as the game-winner in a 3-1 victory.
The Australian national team member played in a variety roles, either in central midfield or on the left wing, starting 14 games.
“This is a win-win situation for Alex to go to Australia,” Racing coach Kim Björkegren said. “She’ll be back home and have the chance to play more games and hopefully show them that she is a player for the national team to build around. We wish Alex good luck.”
Chidiac had a goal and an assist in 14 games for Melbourne Victory last season, starting in central midfield in the Grand Final.
Melbourne Victory opens the season with a November 19 tilt against Western United, which will feature Racing teammates Jess McDonald and Hillary Beall.
