Player ratings as Blues secure vital Champions League win

PSG vs Chelsea: UEFA Women's Champions League

Chelsea secured a big victory in their bid to qualify for the Champions League quarter finals with a 1-0 win over PSG at the Stade Jean-Bouin on Thursday evening.

A first half Millie Bright goal saw the Blues to victory over last season’s beaten semi finalists as the west London outfit turned in a resilient, disciplined performance.

Chelsea took the lead just before the half hour mark, Bright giving Èlisa de Almeida the slip from a corner and volleying home Erin Cuthbert’s delivery at the back post.

Kerr saw an effort deflected narrowly wide thanks to an important De Almeida intervention following a flowing team move in the second half as the Blues pushed for a second.

PSG really started to go for it in the final 25 minutes, with Kadidiatou Diani moving into the central striker role and stretching the Chelsea backline. She had two sightings of goal in the space of 10 minutes, first calling Ann-Katrin Berger into action after working an inch of space for herself, and then firing narrowly over from the edge of the box.

But a resilient Chelsea held firm to secure a vital three points in their particularly tough Champions League group.

CB: Èlisa de Almeida – 5/10 – Lost track of Bright at a corner in the build up to PSG conceding the opening goal. Made an important block to send a goal-bound Kerr effort around the post in the second half.

CB: Amanda Ilestedt – 6/10 – Had a tough battle up against the dynamic Harder and Kerr, with the pair getting in behind the PSG backline on a handful of occasions.

LB: Sakina Karchaoui – 7/10 –
Produced a great piece of defending to prevent Charles delivering from the byline and had a really interesting battle with the Chelsea winger. Looked one of PSG’s most dangerous players in the second half with a couple of exciting forays forward.

CM: Oriane Jean-François (79′ for Traoré) – 5/10 – Second best in her battle with Cuthbert.

CM: Grace Geyoro – 5/10 – Largely kept quiet as PSG were second best in midfield. Unable to have her usual attacking impact on proceedings.

CM: Jackie Groenen (70′ for Cascarino) – 6/10 – Neat, tidy and energetic, but unable to have any telling impact on proceedings.

RW: Kadidiatou Diani…
