NC State Falls to Louisville 1-0

Virginia

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s soccer team dropped its regular-season home finale 1-0 to Louisville on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.

The Wolfpack (7-6-4, 2-5-1) allowed just one goal behind a career-high 14 saves from goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta, but NC State was unable to tally a goal of its own in the 1-0 defeat.

After Louisville (6-6-2, 3-5-0) grabbed the opener on a counter-attack goal from Corinne Dente in the 29th minute, the Pack almost leveled the game at 1-1 in the 35th minute behind a shot from Leyah Hall-Robinson.

In the second half, Hall-Robinson again almost tallied the tying goal when her shot forced a save from Louisville goalkeeper Erynn Floyd. NC State’s best chance of the night came in the 68th minute when Mia Vaughan’s effort from outside the box forced Floyd to make a diving save to her left.

NC State held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, earning four of its corner kicks in the final 45 minutes.

Hall-Robinson paced the Pack with a pair of shots, firing one on target. Annika Wohner, Jenna Butler and Vaughan each recorded one shot apiece.

Graduate defender and captain Lulu Guttenberger tied an NC State record Thursday night with the 92nd start of her career. Her 92 starts tie Jill Rutten (1986-1990) for the NC State record for career starts.
