COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State captain Kayla Fischer led the Buckeyes to a pair of blowout wins last week and has been named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Fischer scored four goals and had an assist in wins over Maryland and Illinois. She moved into the Top 10 in program history with her goal on Thursday night against Maryland. She then vaulted into eighth as she notched her first career hat trick to go along with an assist in the 6-1 win at Illinois. Fischer scorer her four goals on just five shots on goal.
The Kent, Ohio native is riding a hot streak as she has now scored a goal in five consecutive games and has seven goals in those five games. She is tied for the team-lead with eight goals on the year and has 28 for her career.
For Fischer, this is her second player of the week honor this season and the fourth of her career. She also earned the award on Oct. 4, of this season following a pair of goals, including the game-winner against No. 6 Penn State. Fischer is the first Buckeye to earn Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice in the same season since Sammy Edwards during the 2017 season.
Her phenomenal week was also recognized nationally as she was named to the College Soccer News Women’s National Team of the Week.
