Panthers Offense Comes Alive in 5-2 Victory Over No. 25 Duquesne

PITTSBURGH – Behind a season-high five different goal scorers, the Pitt men’s soccer team (7-3-3, 3-2-1 ACC) secured a 5-2 home victory over No. 25 Duquesne on Monday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The win marked the fifth straight against the Dukes as Pitt improved to 10-0-2 all-time against Duquesne.
 
After some back and forth play, the Dukes had the first good scoring chance of the match in the 17th minute as Maxi Hopfer got in to the right of the goal but his hard low shot was kicked away by Joe van der Sar to keep the game scoreless.
 
The Panthers broke through with the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute as Henrique Gallina sent a long ball down the right flank to Lucas Rosa who crossed the ball into the box where Luis Sahmkow buried his third of the season under the cross bar.
 
Guilherme Feitosa had a great scoring chance in the 38th minute as he headed a Jackson Gilman cross off the right goal post and the Duquesne defense was able to clear the ball out of harms way.
 
The Panthers doubled up their lead with just over 20 seconds to play in the first half as Feitosa and Valentin Noel worked the give-and-go to perfection as Noel fed Feitosa who sent the ball right back to Noel who buried the ball into the right corner on the counter attack for Pitt.
 
Out of halftime, the Panthers were able to jump ahead by three as Filip Mirkovic sent a great ball into the box where Feitosa gathered and fed a streaking Michael Sullivan who buried the ball…
