Men’s Soccer Looks For Road Win Tuesday At Elon

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Continuing its four-game road stretch, the University of North Carolina men’s soccer team is set to travel up I-40 W to play in-state foe Elon on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at Rudd Field.

The Tar Heels will arrive in Elon, North Carolina, with a 6-3-3 (2-2-2) mark on the season, having only dropped one contest – a 1-0 loss to defending national champion Clemson – in their last eight games. UNC battled NC State to a 2-2 draw in its last outing Friday night behind goals from Ernest Bawa and Til Zinnhardt

Zinnhardt, who was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, is one of only two outfield players in the Atlantic Coast Conference who has logged a full 90 minutes in all contests so far.

Leading Carolina’s offensive effort is Milo Garvanian, whose 12 points on the year is his career best. He ranks first on the roster in goals (4), assists (4), points (12) and shots on goal (10). Six additional players have found the back of the net this season, including Akeim Clarke and Key White with two apiece.

Carolina has continued to lock down on defense throughout the season, allowing its opponents an average of just 6.75 shots per game. The Tar Heels have kept their competitors to six shots or fewer in six of their 12 contests and 10 or fewer in all but one.

Elon, picked third in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll, boasts an 8-3-2 (5-1-1) record on the 2022 campaign and is coming off a 3-1 victory over Hofstra. Eleven players have scored at least once for the Phoenix, led by Mason Duval with a team-high five goals and 10 points.

Tuesday’s tilt will be the 14th meeting in program history between the two teams and first since 2009. Carolina has out-scored Elon 41-6 all time and will look to preserve its unblemished record in the series, which the Tar Heels lead at 12-0-1, including a 4-0-1 mark on the road.
