Conte Hails Resurgent Spurs, Offers Richarlison Update

Antonio Conte was gushing in praise for his Tottenham side who defeated Everton 2-0 on Saturday to seal their best start to a season campaign in 59 years.

Spurs’ victory, by virtue of Harry Kane’s 59th minute spotkick and Pierre-Emil Hjobjerg’s 86th minute strike, moved them to 23 points from 10 games.

Tottenham are third in the Premier League, with Arsenal top on 24 points and Manchester City in second on 23, with both sides to play on Sunday.

Conte’s side have scored 22 goals, conceding 10, clinching seven wins and only losing once this term.

“Honestly, Im really happy, because I have seen a lot of positive things,” Conte said. “There are wins, and wins. Today, I go back to my house really happy.

“We are showing stability, I always say, to play against us is not easy. For sure, we have to continue to work and improve, but we are a team, and I consider us really strong.

“If we are good to improve and continue to grow in other aspects, not only tactical but also to show this maturity, then well have great satisfaction.”

Conte took over mid-season last term, guiding Spurs to an improbable fourth-place finish, securing UEFA Champions League football.

Spurs’ ambition may be bigger than that this term on the evidence of their opening 10 games, particularly with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool failing to convince.

Tottenham will not be helped by injury to Richarlison who went off with a calf injury early in the second half, meaning he’ll miss their midweek clash with United.

“For sure he’s out. He felt something in his calf and he won’t be available,” Conte said.

“I think he needs a bit of time to recover. It’s a pity because we are talking about a player who gives us a lot of quality but is also strong and improves our intensity. He will have an MRI to understand it tomorrow, we hope it is not serious.”
