Mohammed’s Brace Leads No. 3 Duke Past Notre Dame

DURHAM – The No. 3 Duke men’s soccer team picked up its fourth conference win on Friday night, defeating Notre Dame by a score of 2-0 at Koskinen Stadium. Shakur Mohammed logged his second brace of 2022 to lead the Blue Devils’ offense and Eliot Hamill finished with his eighth clean sheet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duke controlled possession in the opening minutes of the match, taking the first shot of the evening in the 11th minute.
  • Notre Dame attempted several corners through the first 22 minutes of action but were unable to convert off the services.
  • Shakur Mohammed opened Duke’s ledger in the 25th minute, heading home his sixth goal of the season over the outstretched hands of the Notre Dame goalkeeper.
  • Notre Dame started the second half with higher offensive tempo, testing Duke’s defense with several corner kicks and a shot in the first 10 minutes of play after the intermission.
  • Eliot Hamill, the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, continued his strong play between the posts with several saves throughout the second half.
  • Mohammed slotted his seventh goal of the season into the back of the net in the 82nd minute, connecting off a cross from Luke Thomas.

NOTES

  • With his second brace of the season, Shakur Mohammed now has 16 points in 2022, a team high.
  • Amir Daley tallied his first assist of the season, setting up Mohammed’s goal in the first half.
  • Luke Thomas’ assist in the second half was the junior’s first of 2022.
