NC State Hosts Rival UNC in Primetime Match on Friday

RALEIGH – NC State men’s soccer (4-5-2, 1-4-0 ACC) opens its final home stretch of the regular season with a rivalry matchup against North Carolina (6-3-2, 2-2-1 ACC) on Friday night. The game is set for an 8 p.m. start and will be nationally televised on the ACC Network.

A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD

• Be the 543rd win in program history (542-476-106)

• Be the 204th win in Kiefer’s head coaching career (203-127-69)

• Be Kiefer’s 42nd victory at NC State (41-41-18)

• Be Kiefer’s 12th ACC victory with the Wolfpack (11-22-11)

• Mark NC State’s first set of back-to-back home wins against UNC since the 1993 and 1994 campaigns

SERIES HISTORY (NC State trails 22-54-12)

• Friday marks the 89th overall meeting between NC State and North Carolina. UNC leads the series by a 54-22-12 mark. The squads also met twice during the 1949 campaign before the Wolfpack was a varsity team.

• NC State and UNC last met on Oct. 3, 2021 in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels won that match by a 4-0 score, marking the most goals scored against the Pack in a game last season.

• The Wolfpack’s last victory over UNC was on Oct. 12, 2018 when the team stunned the top-ranked Tar Heels at home.

• Prior to last season’s meeting, each of the five previous games between NC State and UNC had been decided by scores of 1-0 or less. The teams had split those contests with two wins apiece and a draw that occurred on Nov. 1, 2020.
