England told Reece James will be fit for World Cup after knee injury scare

England management have been informed that the injury Reece James suffered at AC Milan earlier this week will not rule the Chelsea right-back out of the World Cup finals, 90min understands.

James suffered a knee injury just after the hour mark of Chelsea’s 2-0 Champions League win at Milan on Tuesday evening.

With James being helped off, there were understandably worries about his participation at the World Cup, with final squads due to be submitted on November 13.

England, who are already worried about Kyle Walker’s fitness, could ill-afford to be without James, who many consider among the best right-backs in world football. But fortunately there is not believed to be any lasting damage to James.

Sources have told 90min that the initial diagnosis is James’ injury is not a long-term issue, and although he is likely to miss a couple of weeks of action, that is believed be more precautionary than anything and he will likely return to the pitch before the end of the month.

While James will continue to be assessed by Chelsea’s medical staff as they put him through rehab, it is understood that England’s management and medical staff have been informed that James will be fit for the World Cup.
