Revolution Conclude Season at Chicago Fire FC on Sunday

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – The New England Revolution (10-12-11; 41 pts.; 9th in East) will visit Chicago Fire FC (10-15-8; 38 pts.) on Sunday afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill. for the final match of the 2022 regular season. The MLS Decision Day contest kicks off at 2:30 p.m. ET on WSBK-TV38, myRITV (Rhode Island), and 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2 with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action. Sunday’s match also airs on 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.

The Revolution closed the home portion of the 2022 schedule with a 2-1 victory over Atlanta United FC in Foxborough last Saturday, marking Bruce Arena’s record 250th regular season win as an MLS head coach. New England’s three Designated Players – Gustavo Bou, Carles Gil, and Giacomo Vrioni – all appeared on the scoresheet in the win. In his first MLS start, Vrioni netted his first Revolution goal with the game’s opening tally from the penalty spot, before Bou scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.

Gil distributed his 14th assist on the play while Dylan Borrero also picked up a secondary assist, his second helper of the season. The goal was Bou’s eighth, giving the forward a one-goal edge over Gil’s seven in the club’s Golden Boot race. With one more assist in the finale, Gil would become the first Revolution players to record 15 assists in consecutive seasons, and only the fourth MLS player to do so since 2000.

In defense, veteran center back Andrew Farrell, voted the club’s Defender of the Year for a record fifth time, became the first player in New England history to make 300 MLS starts. Goalkeeper Djordje Petrović, selected as the Revolution’s Team MVP and Players’ Player of the Year, made three saves in his 20th MLS start. The Serbian goalkeeper, who celebrates his 23rd birthday today, Oct. 8, has recorded three clean sheets in his 10 away appearances this season. Petrović signed a multi-year contract extension with New England on Friday.

New England battled Chicago to a 0-0 draw in the most recent meeting between the two sides on Aug. 31 in Foxborough. New England is unbeaten over the clubs’ last seven meetings, with a 3-0-4 record dating back to 2019. Bou paces the Revolution attack with three goals and one assist in six career games against Chicago.
