NC State Concludes Road Stretch at No. 5 North Carolina


RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team (7-4-3, 2-3-0 ACC) concludes its three-game road trip at No. 5 North Carolina (10-3-0, 3-2-0) on Sunday afternoon. Sunday’s match is set for 1 p.m. at the Tar Heels’ Dorrance Field.
 
The Pack’s match against North Carolina will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
 
LAST TIME OUT
NC State dropped its first road match of the season Thursday at No. 17 Notre Dame. The Pack limited the Fighting Irish to just one shot on goal in the first half, which was a penalty kick goal for the home side. A brace from Notre Dame’s Korbin Albert pushed the game to its final margin at 3-0.
 
SERIES HISTORY
North Carolina holds a commanding 47-3-2 record over NC State, but the Pack has posted two wins in the past five matchups, including a 1-0 in Chapel Hill in 2016. NC State shut out the Tar Heels 1-0 win in Raleigh this past season with Jameese Joseph scoring the game-winner.
 
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
The No. 5 Tar Heels opened the week with a 4-0 home win over No. 13 Pittsburgh on Thursday. North Carolina’s sole nonconference defeat came in a 2-1 home loss to No. 1 UCLA. The Tar Heels have also dropped one-goal results to Virginia and Virginia Tech. Offensively, Avery Patterson paces the Heels with seven goals and 17 points. Seven Tar Heels have logged multiple goals this season, including four with four goals or more.
 
A RETURN TO CHAPEL HILL
Raleigh native Alexis Strickland started her collegiate career down the road in Chapel Hill, playing in 27 matches while registering four goals and three assists as a freshman. Her first-collegiate goal was a game-winner against Duke in 2019.
 
COMEBACK PACK
The Comeback Pack. NC State rallied once again on Sept. 29 after going behind first, marking its third comeback win this season. The Wolfpack also has a flair for the dramatic, scoring in the final 15 minutes of games five times. NC State is undefeated (4-0-1) in games it nets a goal in the final 15 minutes.
