“Djordje Petrović has been a great addition to our team. In his 2022 season with the Revolution, Djordje has made a great impression on both his teammates and the staff,” Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. “We believe he has a great future and will continue to improve as a goalkeeper. Therefore, he is most deserving of this new contract.”

Petrović claimed New England’s starting goalkeeper role in May 2022 and went on to make 20 starts in the regular season. He has recorded seven shutouts, the most by a Revolution goalkeeper since 2017, with one game still to play. Petrović’s 75.47 save percentage ranks second among all MLS goalkeepers (min. 30 saves). He made a club-record four penalty saves on the year, the most by any goalkeeper in the last five MLS seasons. During his debut MLS season, the Serbian international backstopped New England to four consecutive clean sheets and a 402-minute shutout streak, the second longest in club history.

According to American Soccer Analysis’ advanced metrics, Petrović has recorded -10.46 goals prevented and +11.37 goals added this year, both of which are on track to be highest single-season totals in MLS since the statistics were first tracked in 2013. Those marks come despite Petrović playing only 1,800 minutes in league action.

Petrović is the fourth Revolution goalkeeper to earn Team MVP honors, as voted on by fans, joining Walter Zenga (1997), Matt Reis (2006 and 2011), and Matt Turner (2020). Petrović is also the third goalkeeper to be recognized by his teammates as the club’s Players’ Player of the Year, joining Turner (2020) and Brad Knighton (2016). He is the team’s first newcomer to win Team MVP…
