Orange Edged At Boston College, 1-0

Syracuse (8-5-0, 1-4-0) was unable to overcome an early goal from host Boston College (5-5-3, 1-4-0) and the Eagles held off the Orange, 1-0, in Newton, Mass. on Thursday evening.

Boston College remained unbeaten in home matches versus Syracuse, improving its overall record to 9-0-2 in games played on the Eagles’ home field.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED

The Eagles took advantage of the best opportunity they had in scoring the only goal of the contest. Syracuse goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch was unable to secure the ball in front of the Orange goal and Claire Mensi directed it into the back of the net. The tally, 24:07 into the contest, ended up as the only goal of the night.

Syracuse threatened multiple times in the second half. Graduate senior Chelsea Domond had a clear shot attempt at 52:18 and added a drive in the final minute of play. Freshman Gianna Savella, who played 25 minutes off the bench, fired just above the cross bar at 66:33.

NOTABLE NOTES:

  • Syracuse outshot Boston College, 10-9 and had a 6-5 advantage in corners.
  • Graduate student Jenna Tivnan, a native of Easton, Mass., played all 90 minutes for the 10th consecutive game.
  • Sophomore Koby Commandant made her 30th straight appearance with Syracuse’s starting 11.
  • Vanderbosch made her 11th consecutive start in goal for Syracuse and finished with two saves.
  • Domond and redshirt sophomore Ashley Rauch led the Orange with two shots each. 
  • Boston College improved its series lead against Syracuse to 11-4-2.
