New York Red Bulls sign John Tolkin to new contract through 2027 MLS season

The New York Red Bulls have signed left-back John Tolkin to a new contract through the 2027 MLS season, the club announced Wednesday.

RBNY also hold an option to extend Tolkin’s new deal by an extra year, which would keep him at Red Bull Arena until the end of 2028.

“We are very excited to sign John to a new contract and keep him with the club,” Red Bulls head of sport Jochen Schneider said in a club press release. “He had a very successful season, and we are pleased to have him on our team for years to come.”

Still just 20 years old, Tolkin has been one of the best left-backs in MLS over the past two seasons and was recently named sixth on the league’s ’22 Under 22′ list of talent.

The nine-time United States youth international has made 64 appearances for the Red Bulls across all competitions to date, scoring three goals and providing five primary assists. Two of those goals and four assists have come across 35 appearances during the 2022 season.

“I am very excited to have John at the club,” said RBNY head coach Gerhard Struber. “He is an extremely talented young defender that brings energy to our backline, and we are pleased to keep him with us.”

According to 90min sources, a number of clubs from across top-flight leagues in Europe have been paying close attention to Tolkin’s progress and this new contract is unlikely to deter any potential suitors.

Tolkin is currently preparing for another MLS Cup Playoffs run with the Red Bulls sitting fourth in the Eastern Conference heading into the final day of the 2022 regular season.
