The Badgers score twice with ten minutes left to come back against Minnesota

MADISON, Wis. – No. 23 Wisconsin celebratec both the accomplishments of the seniors and a comeback win to take a Borer Battle matchup, 2-1, against Minnesota. With this win, UW now stays on top of the Big Ten and remains undefeated in conference play. 

Although the first half was scoreless for both teams, that could have been a different story if it weren’t for the stellar work by Erin McKinney. The senior goalkeeper put up five saves within the first 45 to keep the game even. Wisconsin, however, was not able to find its rhythm as it only had one shot.

The latter half of the game started as the first 45 ended with two shots put up by the Gophers, one falling in. The Badgers went down after a corner kick was granted to Minnesota in minute 50 that was sent in on a header by Amelia Brown.

Wisconsin continued to battle on both ends of the field but was unable to find the offensive efficiency that has been so prominent in previous games. Minnesota was rolling in that area while testing McKinney and the teams’ defense another three times on goal. However, within the last ten minutes of the game the Badgers turned things around.

In the 86th minute Ashley Martinez sent a ball forward in the right side of the box to find Emma Jaskaniec. The senior one-timed it with her right foot while falling to the ground to bring the game level. Just five minutes later Rylee Howard slipped a ball through the Minnesota defense to allow Aryssa Mahrt to take on the goalkeeper. Winning the one-on-one battle while slotting the ball in the back of the net, the team took the lead…
