Orange Defeated at Wake Forest

Wake Forest (8-2-2, 2-2-0) used two second-half goals to defeat Syracuse (8-4-0, 1-3-0) at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sunday afternoon.

HOW THE MATCH WAS DECIDED

Following a scoreless opening half, Wake Forest got on the board first. Olivia Stowell had a point-blank attempt stopped by Syracuse keeper Shea Vanderbosch, but Emily Morris pounced on the rebound and found the back of the net. The goal, at 54:53, put Wake Forest in front, 1-0. It was Morris’ fourth of the fall.

DEMON DEACONS EXTEND THE LEAD

The hosts extended their margin less than 10 minutes later. Kristin Johnson penetrated the central part the Syracuse defense and slid a lead pass to Giovanna DeMarco, who finished the play with her third goal of the season.

VANDERBOSCH TESTED

Vanderbosch faced a variety of shots from Wake Forest and finished with five saves. It was the first time this season she had yielded more than one goal.

NOTABLE NOTES:

  • Wake Forest improved its series advantage against Syracuse to 7-2-1.
  • The Demon Deacons are 4-0-1 versus the Orange at home.
