No. 6 Penn State Drops 3-0 Match at Ohio State

Maryland

COLUMBUS, Ohio. — The No. 6 Penn State women’s soccer program fell 3-0 at Ohio State on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions could not capitalize on offensive opportunities as they out-shot the Buckeyes 20 to 15 and had ten corner opportunities to their four; however, OSU was able to find rhythm by scoring three goals in the second half en route to the win.

With the loss, PSU drops to 7-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Big Ten while Ohio State moves to 8-2-2 and 3-1-1 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first half the Nittany Lions out-shot OSU ten to five, but both sides had just one shot on goal apiece.

In the 14th minute, redshirt senior keeper Katherine Asman saved the Buckeye’s first shot of the game by advancing on the attacker. The 21st minute saw senior Maddie Myers tackle away what would have been the Buckeyes’ second shot on goal.

The 25th minute saw PSU’s best look so far as senior+ Penelope Hocking beat her defender and sent a shot that hit the far post, curling away in the 20 mph+ wind gusts.

Shortly thereafter in the 31st minute, off a free kick, junior Eva Alonso sent a ball to redshirt senior Ally Schlegel who put the ball into the back of the net, but it was called back offsides.

Before the half ended, senior Rachel Wasserman kicked an on-line cross into the box in the 40th minute, but it got stuck underneath senior Jordan Canniff who slid trying to make the shot.

Entering the second half, PSU had many set piece opportunities they could not convert, earning six corner kicks in 20 minutes.

But OSU caught PSU on its heels, finally scoring in the 73rd minute….
