Women's Soccer Falls To Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Tori Powell scored a goal in the 85th minute to lift Virginia Tech to a 2-1 victory over No. 3 North Carolina on a cold and rainy night at Thompson Field, ending the Tar Heel’s 13-game unbeaten streak in the series.

Natalie Mitchell and Taylor Price assisted on Powell’s game-winner that gave UNC (9-3, 2-2 ACC) its first road loss of the season after four straight wins.

Libby Moore scored in the 34th minute to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead as her quick strike just outside the penalty area deflected off a defender and into the goal. Taylor Bryan scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute for Virginia Tech (9-2-1, 3-1).

Carolina outshot the Hokies 15-5 and had nine corner kicks compared to one by Virginia Tech.

The Tar Heels will return to action Thursday, Oct. 6, at home against No. 14 Pittsburgh. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
