Cardinals Drop Tight Battle to #14 Pitt, 1-0

Clemson

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The University of Louisville women’s soccer team (4-4-2, 1-3-0) kept one of the highest scoring teams in the country at bay for most of the night but ultimately fell to No. 14 Pitt (11-1-0, 4-0-0), 1-0, Saturday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Cards kept the Panthers off the scoreboard until the 79th minute as Pitt scored the lone goal of the match.

It was a quiet first half for both teams as it was 0-0 at the half and neither team got a shot on goal. The Cardinals held the Panthers to just four shots over the first 45 minutes. Heading into the match, Pitt averaged over 20 shots a game.

In the second half, the Panthers looked to break the deadlock in the 56th minute. Leah Pais took a shot from distance and Erynn Floyd was up to the task and saved the shot over the top bar.

Pitt broke through in the 79th minute as Samiah Phiri scored off a corner kick.

The Cards pushed forward in hopes of finding the equalizer in the remaining 10-plus minutes of play. Ravin Alexander was able to get a shot on frame in the 85th minute but it was saved by the Pitt keeper.

Louisville was unable to get a tally on the scoreboard and fell to the Panthers. The one goal scored for Pitt tied for the fewest they have scored all season as they entered the match averaging 3.55 goals per game.

The Cardinals will return for the first time in almost three weeks to open a three-game homestand. Louisville will be back in action on Thursday, October 6 against Clemson. That game will start at 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ACC Network…
