COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 21 Mississippi State soccer program kept its 12-match unbeaten streak alive after playing to a 0-0 draw at Missouri (4-5-2, 1-2-1 SEC).
The scoreless draw marks the ninth shutout of the season for the Bulldogs and moves junior goalkeeper Maddy Anderson into sole possession of MSU’s single-season shutouts record.
“It is always tough to get points on the road, particularly when you play a tough, physical opponent like Missouri,” head coach James Armstrong said. “We had some really good looks on goal in the second half and were unfortunate to not have capitalized on them; but credit to Missouri – they’re a quality opponent. Overall, we are really proud of the effort and fight from the team tonight.”
For the sixth time this season, State found itself tied with its opponent at the end of the first half. The opening frame was relatively quiet for both sides as only one total shot was placed on goal in the entire 45 minutes.
Eight minutes into the second half, though, State ripped off three consecutive goal-scoring opportunities, all coming within 15 seconds.
Junior defender KK Pavatt delivered State’s second corner of the night directly onto the head of sophomore Rylie Combs who sent it toward goal. Mizzou’s goalkeeper poked the ball back in front of Maggie Wadsworth who tried to toe-touch the ball through but the keeper, again, got a hand on it and the Tigers tried to clear it.
