No. 6 Penn State Falls to Spartans, 2-1

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The No. 6 Penn State women’s soccer program fell 2-1 to Michigan State on Thursday night.
 
The Nittany Lions could not overcome two second half goals by the Spartans, finding the net themselves just once off the foot of redshirt senior Ally Schlegel in the 82nd minute.
 
With the loss, PSU drops to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Big Ten while Michigan State moves to 8-1-3 and 3-0-1 in the league.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
It was a slow first half for both teams with each side putting up just two shots on goal.
 
After no score at the half, MSU would strike first in the 58th minute for the 1-0 advantage.
 
MSU would double their lead in the 70th minute, 2-0.
 
Following a diving save from PSU redshirt senior Katherine Asman in the 80th minute, the Nittany Lions moved the ball quickly up field to Schlegel who shook two defenders to put the ball into the net making the score 2-1.
 
PSU had equalizing chances in the 85th minute off a corner kick, but the shot sailed high, and in the 83rd with a cross that was swiped by the keeper.
 
The Nittany Lions ran out of time to suffer their first conference loss of the season.
