Richardson Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Maryland redshirt senior defender Nick Richardson was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Richardson starred for the Terps in a 3-3 draw with Penn State and 1-0 win over No. 13 Ohio State. The Terps’ captain was all over the field against Penn State, scoring his second career goal from a tight angle in the first half. The Baltimore native followed that up against the Buckeyes with a great defensive performance that saw him lead the Terps’ to their first clean sheet of the season playing right back and center back.

Maryland has had the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week four times this season. William Kulvik, Niklas Neumann, Chris Rindov and now Richardson have all earned the award. The Terps return to action Friday against Old Dominion with the action live on B1G+.
