Cooper Honored by ACC; Named National Player of Week


DURHAM – Following an impressive week on the pitch and leading fifth-ranked Duke to a pair of ACC wins, sophomore women’s soccer standout Michelle Cooper received ACC and national accolades on Tuesday.  

Cooper was tabbed ACC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while also earning TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News National Player of the Week honors.  

A native of Clarkston, Mich., Cooper collected four goals and two assists for 10 points as fifth-ranked Duke defeated Boston College (3-0) and No. 22 NC State (6-0). On the road at NC State on Sunday, Cooper collected two goals and two assists for a career-high six points to spark the Duke offense.  She took only three shots and scored two goals, including the game winner on Sunday.

Cooper opened the week with two goals in a 3-0 victory over Boston College. It marked her fifth multi-goal performance of her short career and first in back-to-back contests. Cooper owns an ACC-best nine goals, five assists and an ACC-leading 23 points on the season.  Her 2.56 points per game ranks fifth nationally.  

Duke (8-2, 3-0 ACC) will return to action on Friday, Sept. 30 when the Blue Devils host second-ranked Virginia at 7 p.m., live on ACC Network Extra.
